"Stitches" a memoir by David Small

Holy heck this has to be the most moving graphic novel I’ve read thus far. I was crying at my kitchen table as Small navigates the tales of his childhood. Born with digestive and sinus issues, he was given x-rays by his father, a radiologist, that were supposed to “cure” these sinus problems. Years later going to a doctor thinking that he is getting a mere cyst removed from his throat, turns out is really cancer. As he awoken from his second surgery, it is revealed that he is now mute, given that they had to remove one of his vocal chords in the process. His story of growing up in a household where emotions were hidden and him being the center for his parent’s unruly rage, can only express the deepest empathy for this artist. I strongly recommend this read.
